NDA Templates

Use NDA Templates to create the NDA that people must accept before they can open protected documents.

Open NDA Templates in the Admin Center: /nda-templates

Choose the NDA format

When you create a template, choose one format:

  • Write from scratch: write and format the NDA in the editor.
  • Import PDF: upload a final NDA PDF.

Choose the format before you save the template. You cannot change a template from Markdown to PDF, or from PDF to Markdown, later.

Create and publish an NDA

  1. Open NDA Templates.
  2. Select Create template.
  3. Select Write from scratch or Import PDF.
  4. Enter a title and select the language.
  5. Write the NDA, or upload its PDF.
  6. Select Save to keep the draft.
  7. Check the preview.
  8. Select Publish when the NDA is final.

You can use Cmd+S on Mac, or Ctrl+S on Windows, to save a draft.

Rules for drafts and published NDAs

StateWhat you can do
Draft templateEdit, save, replace its PDF, or publish
Published templateCreate a new version
Draft versionEdit, save, replace its PDF, or publish
Published versionActivate it or create a new version
Active versionCreate a new version

Published content is read-only. To change it, select Create Version. This makes a new draft that starts with the current content.

Update an NDA

  1. Open the published template or version that you want to update.
  2. Select Create Version.
  3. Make the changes in the new draft.
  4. Select Save and check the preview.
  5. Select Publish.
  6. Select Activate when this is the NDA that people must accept.

Publishing locks the version. You cannot edit it after publication.

Activate the correct NDA

Only one version of a template can be active. The active version is the version that people see and accept in the Trust Center.

To use an earlier published version again, select it in the version list and select Activate. This does not change the version. It only makes it the active NDA again.

Use the version list

The version list lets you select:

  • Current or Working draft for the base template.
  • A numbered version, such as v1 or v2.
  • The version marked Active.

Use the list to check which version you are editing before you select Save, Publish, or Activate.

Good operating rules

  • Keep one active NDA for each language.
  • Check the preview before you publish.
  • Use a new version for every legal change.
  • Keep the title clear, so people can identify the NDA.
  • Use a final PDF for PDF-based NDAs. You can replace its PDF while it is a draft.
  • Do not publish a PDF template until it has a valid PDF file.

What people see

When a person opens content that needs an NDA, the Trust Center shows the active NDA. After acceptance, the person can open the protected content.
